What does the IELTS stand for?
The IELTS stands for International English Language Testing System. This is an English proficiency examination that evaluates a test candidate’s proficiency in the English language in and social context.
What are the two different modules of the examination?
There are two modules in the exam: Academic and General Training. The Academic module is usually taken by individuals who will be undergoing studies in undergraduate or postgraduate programs, or professional registering for a professional organization. The General Training is for people planning to study secondary education, training in a center in a below degree level, or those who want to migrate to an English-speaking country.
What are the sections of the IELTS test?
There are four sub-tests in the IELTS exam – speaking, writing, reading and listening. Each has specific skills that are evaluated. An IELTS package review commonly has programs designed to train individuals with these four skills.
Is there a pass of fail score in the IELTS test?
There is no pass or fail marking in the IELTS examination. However, there are specific band scores that companies, universities and institutions require from their applicants. Failure to reach these scores means the candidate has to retake the test.
How long is the validity of the IELTS certification?
After two years, your IELTS certificate expires. You cannot use an expired certificate in any application. You have to take the exam again to get a new certification.
How long does it take to complete the examination?
The reading test takes about an hour to finish. Test candidates are given thirty minutes for the listening. For the speaking examination, candidates have to sit for an interview for about fourteen minutes. Finally, fifty minutes is allotted in the writing test. Part of an IELTS package review program is to train candidates to finish the exam within these time limits.
What does a candidate need to bring on the test center on the exam day?
A valid passport is a requirement on your test day. Also, bring some pens and pencils as the exam is a paper-based examination. Erasers are also needed to erase unnecessary marking on your answer sheet.
How soon can a candidate repeat if he or she fails to hit his or her target score?
A candidate can book an exam whenever he or she likes. Deadlines are set so candidates have to know when to file a reservation for the test.
Can I step out of the testing area during the IELTS test?
Unfortunately, candidates are not allowed to leave the room where testing is taking place. If in any case that a candidate needs to use the bathroom, he or she will be escorted by a test center administrator.
Is there a negative marking or overall band score in the IELTS?
There is no negative marking for the test.
