Easiest Way To Fail IELTS Writing

Failing is never an option in the IELTS test. However, because a test candidate comes unprepared for the examination, it is most likely that this candidate will fail to hit his target score. Getting ready – mentally and physically – for the examination is a key to your success. Reviewing for the examination is not an option rather a must-do for the exam.

Among the different sections of the IELTS test, writing poses a threat to candidates who are not fond of writing essays. Do you want to fail your IELTS writing test, do the following to make sure of your failure in the exam.

Let us look at a sample question and response to point out things that can help you fail.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

You had a good meal in a local restaurant with your family. Write a letter to the manager to tell him about it, describe the meal you had, and why you think the restaurant is worth visiting.

You should write at least 150 words.

Sample Response

Dear Sir;

I am really happy with the meal I had with my family in your restaurant. We ordered some vegatables and shrimp for our family dinner. The shrimp is tasty and the vegatables were cooked to perfection. I want to visit your restaurant again.

Thank you.

Mr. Cruz

Looking at the response, let us point out the mistakes.
• Sentences should be properly punctuated. The opening greeting should use a comma not a semi-colon. Mistakes in punctuation cause deductions on your score.
• Spelling is a common mistake done in the writing test. Because candidates use a pen and paper to write, there are no indications that a misspelled word is written. Test candidates should double check on the spelling and make sure that every word is spelled correctly.
• Verb tenses should be consistent. Most essays fail because the verbs shift from one tense to another. When you are detailing a finished event, use the simple past tense.
• The closing citation should not be “love”. Instead, use Sincerely. Citations should always follow with the tone of the letter.
• The number of words in this letter does not reach the minimum 150 words. Not reaching the required number of words is another deduction to the score.
 • Going back to the task, it asks the candidate to write why the restaurant is worth visiting. However, in the essay, there is no information about that. Again, the tasks of the writing should be addressed. Failure to do so means another deduction on your score.
To avoid failing the IELTS test, here is what test candidates should do:
• Review of grammar rules. Poor sentence construction can lead to weak content. Grammar topics like verb tenses, conjunctions, and cohesive devices should be reviewed for the writing test.
• Practice a lot of writing exercises. Development of your content is dependent on the amount of practice you devote in reviewing. You learn from these mistakes.
• Remember to answer all the tasks needed. Look at the question and make sure that all the tasks are answered in the essay. The tasks also serve as a guide in the organization of your writing.
• An IELTS package for good review can help test candidates do better in the IELTS exam. Training with coaches is a good preparation for the exam.
